SharePoint Has Completely Taken Over

Microsoft SharePoint

Wow! Talk about not having time to do ANYTHING!

It's been over 2 months since I came back from Dubai and since my last update quite a lot has happened. The question is where do I start? Do I actually bore you with all the details or shall I just give a brief overview of some of the stuff that I've been upto?

After getting back from Dubai it wasn't long before I was back out on the road as I spent half of April in London on some Microsoft SharePoint courses.  SharePoint is something I've been looking to get involved with for quite some time now and finally the time came when my boss gave me the go ahead to jump onto some courses to give me an insight into Microsoft's latest technology.

So what is SharePoint - whole in whole it is an Intranet, a Website and also a collaboration tool - all rolled into one. It's a different world using SharePoint especially when you're so used to creating web pages from scratch and adding your magical touch to the look and feel of the sites. You can be as creative as you want with your own website but with SharePoint, it's like going back to school and starting fresh by learning the basics of Web Development.

As I use Dreamweaver quite a lot for my daily tasks, using SharePoint Designer was quite a struggle - for the first hour or so. After the initial hour it became relatively easy to use and I truly couldn't believe how powerful SharePoint Designer really is. It gave me the flexibility to create new Web Parts (modules) without actually having the knowledge on how to create them.

Rather than go into too much detail on SharePoint - as I'm probably boring you all already with all of this IT talk, let's change the subject a little. Since the last update I was at the Reebok yesterday for BWSA's Player Of The Year Awards which was going to be attended by Bolton Wanderers FC Players Ariza Makakula(Loan), Sebastien Puygrenier (Loan) and Mark Davies - however the evening took a little turn and I was rather surprised at the turn out.

Rather than give everything away about who turned up and who actually won the Player Of The Year Awards, I'll blog about that another day. Let's just say the winners deserved the awards and the I preferred the turnout to the players that were noted to be coming.

Keep your eye's peeled for a further update over the next couple of days - I hope. And oh yeah - it's my birthday this Friday. God - I'm getting old - lol!

Dubai Was On The Cards Last Week

Anis Jolly & Evo Hannan @ Dubai Creek Park

I'd like to apologise to anyone who reads my rather dull blog, as I've not had the chance to update it over the last week or so.

I was busy enjoying the Sun, Sea and Sand in sunny Dubai. I decided to take this rather adventurous journey to see a friend who was going to be celebrating his 30th birthday - and he sure celebrated the week in style.

Evo (pictured with me) teaches in Dubai, and he was given the task of giving me and a friend a roof over our heads while we stayed there. As soon as we landed at Dubai International Airport, Evo picked us up and took us to the villa where he lives (sorry I meant to say Porn Palace). We dropped off our suitcases and jumped straight back into the car and headed off to the Palm Jumeirah - at 1.30am (local time), talk about being nuts!

We ended up going to a place called The Sanctuary - which was off the hook! As we were entering The Sanctuary, one of us pointed out that some guy who just rushed past us looked like Sol Campbell, and With it being my first night in Dubai I didn't quite expect to be bumping into people who are more or less known in the UK.

Once we were in - the Sol Campbell look-alike was chilling out in one corner on his own so I though I'd go up to him and talk to him just to find out whether he is Sol or not - and it actually turned out to be Sol. What were the chances of that happening? Wasn't he supposed to be playing football on the Saturday - I mean a few hours later? If he was then what the hell was he doing in Dubai at 1.30am (local time)?

Oh well, it's his career down the pan then - why should I worry about it? We ended up calling it a night at around 4am and went to sleep. We woke up a few hours later wondering what craziness Evo has planned for us today (Saturday) and it came about that we're all going to a Pool Party / Barbecue which has been organised by his Aussie friends. We had a fun time chilling out in the sun as there were more plans for the evening where we were invited to a house party! No - not a house party like what Kid 'n Play used to hold back in the 80's - but this was more of a down right chilled out party where I met some crazy people like Tom and Chin Chin.

Don't worry I'm not going to be explaining each day in detail but give you more of an overview on what my trip was like! Come Sunday, we all woke up a little late, got changed and had showers, we had a meal booked with Evo's 'adopted family', who are called The Deans. I have to just say one thing about the Dean's and they are just Super Cool! We got to meet Norm (who recruits teachers for the school he works at) and Sue (Norm's wife), along with Andy Mowat (another Aussie with a crazy sense of humour) and the infamous Jack Patel who was just mad!

Nominated For The Best Editor 2009 Award

Football Fan Census - Best Editor 2009 Award

Can you actually believe I've been nominated for an award?

I look after a website in my spare time which is viewed by thousands of Bolton Wanderers fans (Oh no - not Bolton Wanderers again!), well as I said in one of my previous posts - I'm a Bolton fanatic! - Voice Of Bolton is something I setup in August 2008 and now has quite a following. By my work on the BWSA, I managed to get an agreement whereby the Supporters' Association were happy to come on board and unite my website with theirs.

In my efforts to continue building on what I have built, I have been nominated for the Football Fan Census - Best Editor 2009 Award. not a bad title eh?

I'll be completely honest, the award is something which I do not deserve as there are other editors who are doing something similar to me (not building websites but writing some great articles) and they fully deserve credit for the work they produce.

I'm hoping over the next couple of seasons, Voice Of Bolton can be proud of putting other names forward for nominations, fans / people who regularly contribute content to the site will for sure be put forward for the 2010 awards.

Apart from that, there's a lot of changes taking place on the site over the summer period so keep your eyes on Voice Of Bolton or on this site - plus we're looking to launch another football network site before next season!

More news on that further along in the year!!

Last but not least - if you feel like voting for me, here's the link: Football Fan Census - Best Editor 2009 Award - Place Your Vote Here

Bolton Players Jlloyd Samuel & Andy O'Brien Drop In For A Chat

Jlloyd Samuel & Andy O'Brien @ BWSA Social Evening - February 2009

Most of you who know me may know that I've been a committee member of the Bolton Wanderers Supporters' Association for quite a few years now - mind you if being a Bolton fanatic isn't enough!

Tonight we held a Social Evening at the Reebok Stadium where we were joined by current Bolton Wanderers first team players Andy O'Brien and Jlloyd Samuel who answered questions thrown at them by the audience. I have to say it was a nice evening, meeting the players rersponsible for keeping other teams strikers at bay and also it's nice to see their human side - although they're wealthy and get paid tons for playing the game I enjoy playing myself.

Apologies for the low grade photo, my iPhone 3G doesn't actually have a good camera on it. Trust me to pay good money for a phone with a cack camera! Both Jlloyd and OB (as Jlloyd calls him) were great. It'll be good to see them again at one of the socials in the future!

Welcome To My New Look Site

Old version of current website

Welcome to the newand improved anisjolly.co.uk

This website has been in the making for quite some time, well I mean I've been looking to re-vamp it long ago but I've only just managed to get round to getting it done. With some spare time thrown aside for this little project, I've managed to complete the beauty that is before you. As you can see from the image above, my old site looked quite different to what it is now.

Initially when I'd designed it and put it altogether, I didn't account for the amount of updates i was looking to do - as my site wasn't initally designed for 'lots' of updates. Well now I don't have to worry about that.

I hoping to make more improvements as time goes on and I hope to make more of an effort in keeping the site up-to-date, unlike the previous one which sat dormant for god knows how long!! I'm using the words 'I hope' too much aren't I?

Well, I hope you like the new look site and feel free to drop in anytime!
